Somerset Long Bay East
Long Bay Road, Somerset
Acreage: 2.86 acres
Acquired:
Purchased by Buy Back Bermuda, 2005
Special Features:
Public access, interpretive trail and bird hide
This easily accessible reserve features a restored inland pond, restored native and endemic woodland, grassland and rocky coastline. With an interpretive trail and a bird hide, it is a good place to see both waterfowl and woodland birds.
Purchased in 2005 by Buy Back Bermuda, the reserve was restored and opened to the public on Earth Day 2007. The existing pond was dredged and expanded to create a healthier environment for biodiversity with the creation of small nesting islands. There is a small dock from which pond life can be viewed. Invasive flora has been largely removed from the reserve and native and endemic trees planted.
