Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo

Dr. Miguel Mejías will be giving a lecture about his New Zealand research at the Bermuda Aquarium on September 19, 2024, at 7pm inside the Bermuda Aquarium classrooms. His dream is to follow in the footsteps of his mentor, Dr. David Wingate, and serve as the caregiver for Bermuda’s national bird, Bermuda Petrel (Pterodroma cahow). To support his passion and future endeavors, the Bermuda Zoological Society (BZS) and the Bermuda Audubon Society provided funding for Miguel to train with two petrel species in New Zealand. The trip would prove to be invaluable; he has further refined his seabird handling skills, gained insight into petrel management and conservation, and invasive predator control. As an avid wildlife photographer, Miguel will also be sharing some of his bird photography from New Zealand, highlighting some species he saw in the “seabird capital of the world,” including albatross! He is excited to share his passion and unforgettable journey with everyone. The lecture is free. We hope to see you there!
