Status:
Common migrant and winter visitor primarily between October and April, although it has been recorded in all months except July. Eurasian form is usually recorded annually in the spring as males moult into breeding plumage.
Local Habitat:
Mainly ponds and pond edges, often on flooded fields, pastures and farm sloughs.
Commonly Seen:
Spittal Pond, Mid Ocean Golf Course North Pond, Seymours Pond, Somerset Long Bay reserves, Outerlea Dairy.
