Both woodland and wetland restorations have taken place on this site since it was acquired as an abandoned garbage dump. A walking trail winds through the woodland to the south of the entrance and a small gap is maintained in the mangroves to provide a vista of the pond on its eastern side.

Mixed woodland and a maturing cedar forest surround a 1-acre brackish, mangrove-fringed pond about 5’ deep, which contains two small islets supporting nesting herons.  Bartram’s Pond, named after an important 19th century Bermuda naturalist, was restored from a garbage dump in the 1980s. It is connected to Mullet Bay by a tidal channel which runs under the road.

The pond supports a healthy population of the endemic Bermuda Killifish (Fundulus bermudae). American eels have also been observed in the pond. It provides a rich feeding ground for many species of waterfowl and herons.
