Pied-billed Grebe Podilymbus podiceps  

Status: Common winter resident and migrant. Occasional breeder.

Local Habitat: Ponds and sheltered coastal waters.

Habits: Single birds or small groups frequently diving for food. Wary and quickly submerges when disturbed. Rarely seen flying.

Commonly Seen: Spittal Pond, Somerset Long Bay Nature Reserve
