Mallard Anas platyrhynchos

Status: Very common. Introduced in 1960.    

Local Habitat: Ponds and sheltered bays.

Habits: A dabbling duck which frequently up-ends to reach food.

Commonly Seen: Spittal Pond, Albuoy’s Point, Hamilton Harbour
