BirdTrax: Latest Sightings

A Tundra Swan was at Spittal Pond 27 Nov-1 Dec (AD). A Sandhill Crane, the first record for Bermuda, flew over Paget Island 9 Oct (AD). It settled at Outerlea Farm where it remained until 15 May 1994. A Baird’s Sandpiper was at Eat End Dairy 17 Sep (the first since 1981- DBW). A Curlew Sandpiper was at Spittal Pond 9 Jul (5th Bermuda record- PH, LM). A Ruff was at Port Royal G.C. 29 Sep. A Red-necked Phalarope was at Marsh Lane 3-27 Nov (the first mainland record - JM). A Sooty Tern was in Castle Harbour 31 May (SDS). A Long-eared Owl was discovered at Coral Beach Club 3-11 Nov (DW). A Whip-poor-will, Bermuda’s second record, was found at Fort Scaur 16 Oct (SDS). A Long-eared Owl found roosting at Coral Beach Club 3 Nov was the first live record for Bermuda (DW) – there are four previous records of dead birds. A Ruby-throated Hummingbird was on Sayle Road, Smiths 30 Aug. A Say’s Phoebe, the first record for Bermuda, was found at Fort Scaur 17 Sept (EA). A Grey Kingbird at Coney Island 4 Sep was the earliest fall record by 3 days (AD, RP). A Northern Shrike at Ferry Point Park 14 Oct was the earliest fall record by 10 days (DW). A Philadelphia Vireo on Nonsuch Island 14 Sep was the earliest fall record by 5 days (DBW). Solitary Vireos were at Morgan’s Point 18-29 Dec (SDS) and Ariel Sands 29 Dec (AD). A Black-throated Blue Warbler at DH Park 25 Aug was the earliest fall record (DBW). A Yellow-rumped Warbler at Shelly Bay Marsh 16 Sep was the earliest fall record (LM). A Yellow-breasted Chat at Coral Beach Club 26 Aug was the earliest fall record (DBW). A Summer Tanager in the Arboretum 31 Aug was the earliest fall record. A Field Sparrow was at the Biological Station, St. Georges 13 Oct (EA). A Sharp-tailed Sparrow, the first for Bermuda, was found at Cedar Grove fields, Southampton 13 Oct (EA). A Fox Sparrow was at Hog Bay Park 30 Nov (AD). A White-crowned Sparrow on Paget Island 1Oct was an early fall record by 2 days (AD, PW, DBW). A Red Crossbill was at Spittal Pond and Nonsuch Island 1-12 Apr (DBW).
